The best kept secret to get rid of acne and acne scars. It really works! Trust me...

For years i have had bad acne and scaring. I have used almost all the tricks in the book until i came across information on what is called the Oil Cleansing Method. I saw success stories and it seemed not only simple but also cheap! Expensive brands claiming to fix acne do work for some time but then dry your face out and eventually stop working. I was tired of a flaky/oily face and the caked on make-up to cover it all up.

So here is the AMAZING Oil Cleansing Method:

"Using oil to wash my face is probably the last thing I would think of. After reading about oil-cleansing, it all began to make sense.
Our skin produces oil in order to function properly. When we use harsh or even mild facial cleaners/lotions/products they strip our face of it’s natural oils. Our skin is then forced to compensate by producing more oil. An over production of oil will clog our pores- causing acne-and leave our skin feeling/looking oily. I normally would wash my face (with Cetaphil) at 6:15am and it would get oily by 8:30am!"
There are many reasons why our skin can benefit from oil-cleansing.

  1. Oil dissolves oil
  2. It will dissolve the oil that has hardened throughout the day and stuck in your pores
  3. Naturally keeps your skin supple and moisturized
  4. Easily removes make up
  5. Cheaper than buying facial products
  6. It’s a cleanser, make-up remover and moisturizer all in one!
  7. Helps even out skin tone
  8. 100% Natural
Recommendations:

  • For those with normal skin use a 1:1 ratio of Castor Oil(cold-pressed) and EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil)
  • For those with acne-prone or oily skin use a 3:1 ratio of Castor Oil (cold pressed)and EVOO. (This is what I've been using)
  • For those with drier skin start off with a 1:3 ratio of Castor Oil (cold-pressed) and EVOO
I keep my oil in a small container with 3 Tbs of Castor Oil and 1 Tbs of EVOO – it lasts about 2 weeks.

You can use several different types of oil, but after some comparing, I went with a combination of 70% Castor Oil (Make sure it’s cold-pressed) and 30% Extra Virgin Olive Oil. My reason is because Castor Oil is great at pulling  out all of the dirt/build-up, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil is very nourishing and moisturizing. It also has the same PH as human skin.

The routine goes like this:

  1. Let your faucet run, so the water gets pretty hot.
  2. Gently rub a quarter size amount on your face for about a minute. Make sure to massage it in and not scrub it.
  3. Run a washcloth under the faucet. (This part is important, because it has to be hot enough to cause a steaming effect that helps to remove the dirt form your pores.) Leave the washcloth over your face until it’s cooled down, about a minute.
  4. Gently wipe off the oil using the washcloth.
  5. Your skin will probably look nice an supple and will probably be a little red from the steam.

I have been using this method for about a month now and i am so happy with it. My skin isnt half as oily, my make-up looks great all afternoon. My acne has decreased significantly, only a few pimple here and there and even then they clear up within a day or two. My scaring is also going away. You really should see results within a few days. I use this method at night and in the morning i wash my face with Mary Kay Timewise because it helps prevent wrinkles and really makes your skin feel great.

Let me know if you try this great method and comment below!

    1. I use the oil mixture in place of my cleanser in the evenings because it does cleanse your face. I take off my makeup with Mary Kay Oil Free Make-up Remover and then use the oil mixture. In the mornings use a cleanser of your choice.

  3. I have been using the OCM for about 2 to 3 months. My skin was looking great! All of my small acne and deep pimples were gone. I got really sick around Thanksgiving and didn't feel like washing my face for about 2 weeks. Wow, could I tell a difference. My acne was coming back, the texture of my skin became worse and I could tell a difference in the moisture of my skin. I will not do that again! I will continue using the OCM, because I love the results!!

Here is a definition of cold pressed caster oil. "Cold pressed castor oil is an oil extracted from castor bean seeds. Castor beans are rich in precious oil, which makes up 50%-60% of their weight. When pressure is applied to the beans they release their oil and all of the nutrients, minerals and essential fatty acids which they contain. No heat is required to extract the oil. Simply pressing the beans provides a wonderfully luxurious oil packed full of nutrients.

Some manufacturers use chemicals and solvents to extract the oil which can introduce impurities to the finished product. This method of extraction is quicker and cheaper but it produces an inferior product because the purity of the oil is far lower and many of beneficial compounds are lost in the manufacturing process.

If you want to use castor oil as a dietary supplement, cold pressed castor oil is the number one choice. This type of castor oil is considered to be of ‘food grade’ quality and you will be assured of a 100% pure product. If a bottle of the oil does not mention it is cold pressed castor oil we recommend looking for another product."

    1. I have never tried coconut oil but have heard of people using it. I know it's good for cleansing and softening skin but I don't know about the effects of acne. Let me know if you try it!

    2. Coconut oil is known to cause clogged pores. Not to everyone, but to most of people. So I wouldn't recommend it.
I am, however, interested in what moisturizer do you use in the morning? I have combination skin so I would like to start with the mixture for dry skin, but will it unclog pores?

    3. I've used Coconut Oil for a lot of things over the past few months, including makeup remover, and I love it. It's actually got a bit of an anti-bacterial thing going on with it, and has cleared my skin rather than clogging pores. I would recommend giving it a try; nothing is going to be 100% successful on everybody. See what works for YOU.

  10. I want to try this and was also hoping to begin using a green tea and apple cider vinegar toner to help with redness, inflammation, etc with acne. Do you think that is a good or bad idea if using the oil cleansing method?

  13. I too have been using the OCM for almost a year now! I love it and am convinced it is so much better for your skin than regular cleaners. I had a major issue with oily skin before and that has been completely resolved. I don't really think it has done much for old scarring, but I rarely have dry or oily skin now and that is enough proof for me! It is so cheap and easy to do. I blogged about here http://kandydpierce.blogspot.com/2013/05/oil-cleansing-method-revisited.html.

  14. Hello!! I just tried this for the first time and it was AMAZING. I'm mind blown with the results, just using it after thr first time in itself. My skin feels so much more softer and gives it a glowing effect as well. Not sure if the acne goes or not, since today was the first time i ever tried it, but I will definitely follow up with you! :D

  16. For the oil mixture, will it be mixed completely? Or will it be separated between the 2 oil (creating 2 layers such as with oil and water)?
Because my mixture is mixed completely even though it's not shaken; while in other blog I found a picture that the mixture will create layers if not shaken.

Also, is the oil mixture generally not as slippery/ smooth as facial wash (soap)??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It does separate. I just stir it with my finger before i put it on my face. It's more oily and slippery than normal face wash since that's usually like a cream texture.

  18. I just tried this with shea butter instead of castor oil. wow. My skin was dry, flaky and a mess! I've tried two expensive exfoliates and one natural one. Nothing helped. still a dry flaky mess each morning. I hope this works in the long run. but right now my skin looks supple, and moist. no flakes!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I am not sure if Shea butter will have the same effect. The caster oil is needed to clean the skin. Shea butter and olive oil will just moisturize without cleaning. I think Shea butter would clog your pores and cause acne. If your skin is extra dry and flaky i would just use more olive oil and less caster oil.

  19. I don't get it! Do you use this to take off your makeup and moisturize at the same time? Or do you take your makeup off with a product and then use this to moisturize? Please help! I really wanna try this!

    1. Yes and no. I use eye make-up remover to take off my mascara/eyeshadow etc. Then i do the routine with the caster oil and olive oil. So they do take off my foundation and blush.

      Delete
  20. So I use foundation, powder and blush. I can simply apply the oil mixture to my face without any water or anything correct? I simply start massaging the mixture onto my face and then place the warm towel over my face and then wipe everything off? It will take off my makeup and cleanse my face? Do you apply a moisturizer after the oil thing?

  21. Did you get this info from Edgar Cayce readings? He said castor oil was best for the skin and it is. I have proved that myself through my own use but he recommended ideally a blend of castor oil with grape-seed and I suspect that he must have recommended blending the castor oil with something else because it is a bit sticky on it's own. The castor oil is wonderful and if used in conjunction with a heating pad (as per his instructions for the castor oil "pack") it can really reduce scarring! I used it on a friend of mine who had back surgery and scarring from the surgery and was really surprised how quickly the scar tissue beneath the skin dissolved on the first sesion with castor oil pack (leaving it on for three hours). I have used the same method to heal burned skin on my fingertips and it grew back softer than it had been in 3 days time. Amazing! I always use the recommended blend of castor oil/grapeseed on my face as a moisturizer and my skin is wonderful, very moisturized and hardly ever get any acne. I would not use an oil that would clog pores and these don't. Also, once a week, I use a salt scrub on my face for exfoliating, basically just using sea salt and wetting my fingers to coat with the salt then scrubbing it onto my skin to exfoliate. I moisturize immediately after. Just be careful to avoid getting the salt in your eyes or on your lips, as it dries them out too much. I do the exfoliating at night before bed and rub an extra amount of castor oil into my skin and wake up the next morning with a perfect complexion. I wouldn't recommend doing that just before you have to go out because then your skin would have redness from the salt scrub.

  22. I've been using the 3:1 ratio for about a week now, but my face is still very oily. Any suggestions to dry up the oil? Can the mixture be mixed with more castor oil?

  25. I have used the oil method for 3 days. What a difference. By the third day, my makeup did not look like an oil rig leak. Even the dark circles under my eyes have lightened. I have added coconut oil to remove eye makeup, helps keep fine lines moisturized as well. Thanks for this Pinterest post.

  28. I have a few pimples on my forehead and I really want to do the 3:1 ratio, but since I live in Germany I was wondering if I could use coconut oil instead of Castor Oil. CAN I DO THAT???

  29. I Hope the blogger is still checking here because i really want to know if my skin is covered in scars or what. I have very large press and super oily skin. Reading This I'm convinced the commercial cleansers are making it worse. But I'm 58 now and clean or not my forehead and face are covered in bumps. I don't know what they are. They aren't red, they never change or go away. They seem to be enlarged press from years of squeezing pimples long ago. I mean decades. If this method melts scar tissue, it may be what I've been hoping for. Thoughts?

  30. Do you squeeze the water out of the washcloth, or do you leave it soaked when placing it over your face? I feel it may be a silly question, but I know my water is hot, but once squeezing the water out and throwing it over my face, I don't think it's as hot as it should be.

  31. Will this method clog up my pores? I have acne prone skin and really think all the extravagant cleansers and chemical methods aren't necessary. I'd love to see the positive results but I'm worried about my pores clogging and more breakouts occurring.

  32. I have been using coconut oil to clean my face for the past year and I can't tell you how well it has worked for me for clearing up my problem skin. Never before have I had compliments on my skin and I've told it looks glowing. It has reduced any red marks I had on my skin and it feels soft & supple.
I have also stopped eating sugar, which has also helped to dramatically reduce the amount of spots I get. If any you reading this have acne, I would try using oil to clean your skin & also to give up sugar. It worked for me & I never thought I'd have good skin! x

    Thank you!

  34. I use straight Castor oil. It works beautifully, the deeper lines have filled in and the fine lines have disappeared. I would recommend this to everyone if you want to look younger. I rarely have a breakout of acne but did just prior to using this method. Within a couple of days the acne was gone and I haven't had another one. I've been using Castor oil for about 6 weeks, my daughter saw my picture on Facebook and was astonished, saying I was glowing and wanted to know what I was using.
